June
7 marked my long overdue season debut at Ward Pound
Ridge Reservation. One group that was well represented
that night was the emerald group of geometers. At first
glance, this would appear to be among them, but actually
it's a member of the carpet group (Larentinae).
It's The
Bad-wing (Dyspteris abortivaria).
I think that name has something to do with a tough time
a collector was having spreading it -- which I'm sure
paled in comparison to the moth's situation. |
