When
I shifted the primary Jamaica Bay survey site from the
Wildlife Refuge to Floyd Bennet Field a few years ago,
it led to quite a few new species for the overall list
-- some even them even common at Floyd. Since the
opening of the new Visitor Center and renewed sampling
back at the Refuge, the number of Floyd only species has
been diminishing. A case in point is the White-dotted
Groundling (Condica videns)
of the Noctuid subfamily Condicinae, which has already
been recorded twice this year. The pictured one came to
black light on May 8. |
