Finally,
MOW is back. March was cold and the warmer days in April
have been so dry. But finally, I took the best
conditions available to get my black lights out again. I
was rewarded with new species for both Jamaica Bay and
Muttontown Preserve. Representing the latter site, and
recorded on April 23, is this Brown-shaded
Carpet (Venusia comptaria)
of the family Geometridae. In fact, this is my first
record from Long Island of a species commonly seen at my
Westchester survey sites. |
