I
set out on October 20 for the Dwarf Pine Barrens of Long
Island. Oh, I started the last update with that. But on
the way, I stopped to look around the lights on a
convenience store. Most of what was there was run of the
mill stuff. But high up on a wall and photographed with
a long lens was this Pickleworm
Moth (Diaphania nitidalis)
of the family Pyralidae. Not so run of the mill. Well,
maybe down south it is, but in New York it would seem to
be a late season stray. I would have preferred that it
stray to my Jamaica Bay list, but I'll take
it. |
