I've
always wanted to get more micro moths onto this page.
Maybe it's because many of the easily identified ones
are too common to get me excited and maybe it's because
many of the unusual ones are not readily indentified,
but few micros have made it here. Here's one that
brought excitement as a new species for Jamaica Bay and
is easily identified. It's Pyrausta
bicoloralis of the family Pyralidae. It
appeared at the Wildlife Refuge September 25 in the nick
of time -- just as I was ready to take down my last
black light and wrap it up for the night. You just never
know.
