Last
week I talked about the specter of southern
strays reaching Jamaica Bay. But that may not be the
only source of strays to Jamaica Bay. The Little
White Lichen Moth (Clemensia albata)
is a common species at Pound Ridge in northern
Westchester, but this one was a first at the Wildlife
Refuge August 24.
Logic says that this individual is not part of a local
breeding population but wandered in -- and who knows
from what direction. In a strange twist, Pound Ridge
over the weekend had 4 new species that are regular at
Jamaica Bay. |
