I spent four nights
blacklighting in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut.
This has always been exciting in the past. This time it
seemed rather dull. In particular, I was amazed by the
paucity of Noctuids. Nonetheless, there were a few
interesting visitors to the lights. One of them was
this, a Spotted Apatelodes (Apatelodes torrefacta) from the small family Apatelodidae. It
appeared on my last morning there, June 20. And let me
tell you, the following morning was sure to be different
for the Robins and Chipping Sparrows that thought they
were on to a good thing. |
