With October, comes the sad
realization that the moth season is starting to wind
down. The drop in species diversity is undeniable. But
it also means a chance to enjoy some species that take
center stage at this time, such as the fall sallows.
This fall, the Jamaica Bay sites have indeed been
enjoyable, with better than average numbers of Bicolored
and Trembling Sallow. And with the appearance of one --
at the Wildlife Refuge October 19 -- better than average
numbers of Silky
Sallow (Chaetaglaea
sericea). |
