This moth is not what it appears
to be (unlike a Yellow-breasted Chat, which is what it
appears not to be). While looking very much like a
geometer -- just like a White Spring Moth with spots or
a decent fit for the genus Itame -- they is it's a
member of the Drepanidae family. Those are the hooktips,
with this being the only one of our species that doesn't
have that characteristic to its forewings. It's a
Northern Eudeilinea (Eudeilinea
herminiata) and it was a first record at
Pound Ridge Reservation July 29. |
