                        Oak Moth (Phoberia
atomaris) lives up to the first part of its name in
my northern Westchester survey sites and in Hugh
McGuinness' eastern Long Island area. But on western
Long Island, I had never seen it -- until this one came
to my black light at Muttontown Preserve on April 7.
Although similar in appearance to the Xylenini and
Hadenini, the groups of  Noctuids that are typical
at this early point in the season, this one is actually
                        a member of the Catocalinae. | | | | |
