The Mulberry Wing
A no-brainer this week. This is a Dot-lined White (Artace cribraria) of the small family Lasiocampidae (which includes the tent caterpillar moths). The range is said to be Long Island, NY to Florida; common in the south, uncommon to rare northward (Covell). That doesn't tell me if it's resident here or a stray. I can tell you that it is a first record for the Jamaica Bay survey. It came to a building light at Floyd Bennet Field October 2.
