This is a Green Cutworm Moth (Anicla
infecta) of the Noctuid subfamily Noctuinae. I've
seen it a handful of times in the form of worn
individuals, which can usually be identified by the
black filled reniform spot. For the first time, I had
the fortune of finding a stunningly fresh one -- this at Floyd Bennet Field
October 8. Yes, this is another moth that obviously must
get its common name from the caterpillar -- and it's the
moth that will wrap up another season of MOW. |
