This
is a Spotted Straw (Heliothis
phloxiphagus), found during the day September 14 at
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Following the find of a
Schinia scissoides (see 10 Most Wanted, no. 10) at Floyd
Bennet Field a week earlier -- new for New York State,
to boot -- the list of Heliothinae Noctuids (or flower
moths) for the Jamaica Bay area is now 15. In contrast,
the list for my other two survey areas is 2. Wow! |
