I've
been seeing enough of the tiger moth Delicate Cycnia of
late. When one came along August 11 at Floyd Bennet
Field, Kings, Co. that seemed noticeably smaller than
usual, I thought it worthwhile to get some pictures. As
you can see, the orange along the costa tapers off well
before the apex of the wing. That combined with the
smaller size should indicate that this is an Unexpected
Cycnia (Cycnia inopinatus), whose range in
Covell is listed as New Jersey south. So I have to say
it. I wasn't expecting this. |
