I had a somewhat fancier
species lined up for this week, but I couldn't pass up
the opportunity to use pictures taken the same day, June
15, of Pepper-and-salt Skipper and Pepper-and-salt
Geometer (Biston betularia). Not to diminish
this guy, this is our race of England's famed Peppered
Moth of studies of smoke pollution and population trends
of light vs. melanic forms. This one was photographed at
the James Ramsay Hunt Sanctuary in Westchester. |
