This is Tortricicidia testacea, a species of
slug caterpillar moth (family Limacodidae), found June 8
in the Long Pond Greenbelt in Suffolk co. Two reasons
earned it MOW honors. I got a kick out of finding it in
the daytime -- just sleeping on top of an oak leaf. I
also like the way this picture came out. The day's
weather, cloudy with occasional peeks of sun, made for
difficult photography. Finding a cooperative subject
gave me a good opportunity to experiment with camera
settings. |
