The
pictures used here are cropped to a standard size to fit
the page layout. Therefore, one may not get a good feel
for the size of the featured moth. Let me tell you --
this is one big moth. Very few species in our area are
larger than this Carolina
Sphinx
(Manduca
sexta),
a species that sports one of my favorite genus names and
whose larva is known as Tobacco Hornworm. It was found at Floyd Bennet Field
July 15. |
