The
Larentiinae subfamily of Geometridae includes many sleek
looking species. I've spent a bit of time on them and
they were the subject of my first picture page (now in
need of some updating). I think I've gotten the hang of
the variety that look somewhat like the one shown, and
without checking my notes I'll call this one a Red
Twin-spot (Xanthorhoe ferrugata),
albeit a not so red one. This one was photographed May 2
at the James Ramsay Hunt Sanctuary in Westchester co.,
NY. |
