For all the best laid plans and surveying efforts -- lights, bait, flowers -- things fall through the cracks (and get into the cracks of the wall for less than perfect pictures). This first Jamaica Bay record was found in the middle of the day, July 28, on the visitor center wall. This is a Showy Emerald (Dichorda iridaria) of the family Geometridae.
