March 30 was kickoff day for this year's survey of
moths at Nassau County's Muttontown Preserve. Activity
was plentiful both at lights and at bait, where a common
visitor was the pictured Noctuid. I identified it as the
variable Straight-toothed Sallow (Eupsilia
vinulenta). The big white reniform spot is orange
on many individuals, but the tiny "satellite"
spots aid the ID. |
