The Mulberry Wing
March 30 was kickoff day for this year's survey of moths at Nassau County's Muttontown Preserve. Activity was plentiful both at lights and at bait, where a common visitor was the pictured Noctuid. I identified it as the variable Straight-toothed Sallow (Eupsilia vinulenta). The big white reniform spot is orange on many individuals, but the tiny "satellite" spots aid the ID.
